Experience
Since 1996 I have been teaching for Hillsborough Community College at University of South Florida Branch. Here, I’ve taught class sizes from 25 students up to large lectures of 85+ where I incorporate both collaborative learning and interactive lecture. My classes include small group work assignments both in and out of class with the intention of inducing hands-on cooperation between students. Moreover, I encourage students to take active responsibility for their own learning and encourage them to make strategic choices. My ability to build positive relationships with students allows me to fully assess the teaching needs of each individual. While at Hillsborough Community College and through private tutoring I acquired and applied a broad range of teaching strategies. Every student’s learning experience was enriched by diverse lessons for learning styles, gifted/talented abilities, IEPs, 504s, as well as cultural and socio- economic needs. It’s important that my students know why we are learning these lessons and how it applies to the world beyond the classroom. My own education as a multicultural student gives me the knowledge and understanding to help others connect as acclimating students. Being part of the Latin community myself I’m aware of the need for well prepared and effective bilingual educators who have experience teaching bilingual students. There are many individual differences in the way students use their bilingual ability and I’m committed to embracing these to their fullest advantage. I strive for the overall success of my class.
