Experience
I am a tutor new to the Tampa area, with ten years of experience. I have extensive experience working with students who have diagnosed disabilities, but have tutored a wide range of students in all age groups. I earned a BA in English and Environmental Studies from Oberlin College. After graduating in 2000, I worked as a Learning Assistant at Oberlin. My duties consisted of working with learning-disabled students to overcome hurdles. So impressed and inspired was I by the fortitude and dedication of the students I worked with there, I realized that this was the area I wanted to focus on. I went on to the University of Hawaii, where I earned an M.Ed. in special education. For five years I worked as a certified special education teacher in Hawaii, at various public schools, one of them being the state's only accredited International Baccalaureate school (K-12). I developed and helped launch an academic support program for students in grades 6-12 at Le Jardin Academy as well, bringing in a wide array of accommodations for students with learning disabilities, and programs in which peers could help each other to learn. I am certified to teach in the state of Florida, and look forward to working with your student.
