I love to see a student become a self-motivated learner who loves the learning process. Education should be enjoyed by students. It is one of the important aspects to developing students to learn beyond what is put in front of them. I have a B.S. in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University, where I was also a teaching fellow and graduated summa cum laude. I also studied Spanish, which was my concentration there as well. Since my college graduation, I have taught second through fourth grade. I even taught at the #1 Magnet School of America - A.B. Combs Leadership Magnet Elementary School. Throughout my years in the classroom, I have worked with students who are gifted all the way to those who are autistic or live with dyslexia or ADHD. I've always been committed to helping each student achieve academic success, and I work to see each student combine their interests and inspiration as they learn. I've found my passion is in helping children with their written expression. The ability to write clearly is important whether it is for state standard testing, an assignment, or future academic and professional goals. During my tutoring sessions, I incorporate visual aids and manipulatives to help students learn. I also share test-taking strategies that have worked and are easy to comprehend and use.When I'm not teaching or tutoring, I enjoy reading, finding new books at the library and being active outdoors with running, biking, paddle boarding, and swimming. I also like going to sporting events with my husband and young daughter.
