I have earned two Bachelors degrees in British Literature and Philosophy at Florida State University. I am currently working on a Masters of Library and Information Sciences and a Florida Teaching Certification.
Experience
Working with students and helping them develop skills in English is something that I've always been drawn towards. Whether it was helping friends fix up their papers, or making plans to become a teacher in the future, becoming a tutor was a natural progression from dreaming to reality. During the time I have spent working as a tutor, I have completed a training course through FSU which certified me to work as an English tutor at their Reading and Writing center. As a result, I am also very comfortable working with special needs students that need a tutor with prior experience. At the FSU RWC, I worked with students hone their understanding of English grammar, reading comprehension, vocabulary range, writing organization, formal essay writing and proof reading skills. I have worked extensively with ESL students through the FSU P.A.E.C program, which offered tutoring in English reading, writing and comprehension to adult Spanish-speaking migrant workers. To cultivate a field of experience that spans across multiple mediums, I worked with the Academica Virtual Education program offering students from grades 6-12 tutoring with their online courses. During my time with AVE, I also served as a teacher's assistant and liaison between the program and the families of students that were enrolled. Additionally, I worked for the FSU Literature Department as a Research Assistant for 2 years. This work involved offering research assistance to the various publications that Professors were completing, gaining a familiarity with the various subject areas, data retrieval, and constructing professional presentations of the gathered material. I am currently working at the HCC and USF Reading and Writing Centers in order to continue my work with students on a daily basis. In high school I completed AP English Language and Composition and AP Literature and Composition and received scores of 5 on both exams.
