Experience

I attended the University of Miami, graduating from the College of Arts and Sciences with a B.S. degree with Honors, double majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology as well as economics with concentrations in international trade and econometrics. While earning two degrees in my undergraduate student career, I served as president of the Council of International Students (COISO), the second largest organization on campus and an umbrella for more than 30 student organizations, for which I was granted multiple leadership awards. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Miami Children’s Hospital and Habitat for Humanity.  After graduation I returned to my native Trinidad and Tobago where I was a private tutor and an instructor at a public school with the Ministry of Education, Trinidad in advanced level biochemistry and organic chemistry. I went on to work at the University of the West Indies Biochemistry Unit as a Senior Research Associate and instructor for biomedical and biochemistry students. Where I conducted research under the supervision of renowned biochemistry professors who inspired me to set the example of success for her students. I also had the honor of actively coordinating research that was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in January of 2008. I pursued graduate studies in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at University of London, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine earning my Masters Degree in only one year, as well as the DLSHTM.  I was named the Microbiology Student of the Year and was later chosen to represent the university in their following year’s prospectus.  Following graduation, I relocated to the US and worked at Moffitt Cancer and Research Institute where on new drugs for bone marrow cancer in the Department of Malignant Hematology and Experimental Therapeutics and Drug Discovery.  During this time I tutored privately in the afternoons and rediscovered my passion for teaching. I found that I excelled in encouraging students to pursue chemistry and other medical related sciences. My love of education continued to grow and I finally resigned from research to take up full time tutoring, which eventually led me to full time teaching and tutoring. I am honored to be part of the education profession and as I tell my students, ‘Stay with the dream; it is yours!’ As an educator, solid teamwork sensibilities, and creative instructional tools allow me to model desirable expectations for my students, which ultimately prepares them for success at their highest potential. I love my students entirely and would go to lengths to ensure their confidence and success. I serve to inspire and instill a deep sense of curiosity and a thirst for life with its roads, rivers and endless mountains. My goal is to foster high expectations in every student, and to optimize their potential far beyond their academic career
