Experience

I began my teaching career as a lab instructor for Ichthyology and Parasitology classes while working on my masters at Auburn University. After receiving my masters degree I taught high school biology classes for one spring semester as a temporary faculty member before beginning my PhD studies. Since I began working on my PhD in 2013 I have taught Biology I and Biology II at Hillsborough Community College as an adjunct instructor. I have also served as a teaching assistant for the course "Invasion ecology of aquatic animals" at the University of Florida. While I enjoy being a classroom instructor, I miss one-on-one teaching. I love seeing students succeed, especially when I can play a more active role in helping them.

Hobbies

My love of nature and the field of biology is largely a result of my childhood. I grew up exploring my family's property, trying to catch whatever animal I could get my hands on. Now, I am lucky enough to study fish for a living and this passion has since overflowed into my personal life. As a student in Alabama, I spent a lot of time snorkeling, kayaking, and fishing in the state's many streams and rivers. Now that I live in the Tampa area, I am having fun learning to fish saltwater. As a self-proclaimed nerd, I am always excited to catch a new species...although catching a ten pound bass is also very exciting. Some of my other favorite hobbies include hiking in state parks, camping, knitting, and reading.
